Child Healthy Weight Interventions
Evaluation of the Child Healthy Weight programme 2008-2011
The Child Healthy Weight programme is a response to the Scottish Government's Health Efficiency Access and Treatment (HEAT) targets. Each local NHS Board was set a target to ensure that a specific number of overweight children complete a weight management programme as outlined by the 2008-2011 guidance.
Individual health boards deliver a variety of interventions, ranging from evidence-based programmes such as Scottish Child Obesity Treatment Trial (SCOTT) to locally-developed programmes. While the majority of health boards use group-based intervention, many are delivering or developing one-to-one sessions or class/school-based approaches.
NHS Health Scotland led an evaluation on the guidelines which focussed on:
- Lead and practitioner experience with particular reference to programme set up, delivery and perceptions of success
- the identification, recruitment, retention of the target population.
The evaluation for the 2008-2011 Child Healthy Weight guidance was published on 4 March 2011. Updated guidance is expected shortly from the Scottish Government for 2011-2014.
