Find out about our work in supporting capacity building and systems for health improvement in NHS Scotland, which includes supporting NHS Scotland health professionals and being a national coordinating centre of a WHO international network.

Our four areas of work include:

  1. Health Promoting Health Service (HPHS)
  2. Community Health (Care) Partnership
  3. Health Promoting Hospitals International
  4. NHS Boards: Partnership Management Programme

1. Health Promoting Health Service (HPHS)

All NHS sectors have a contribution to make to health improvement. Health Promoting Health Service (HPHS) aims to support the development of a health promoting culture and embed effective health improvement practice within NHS Scotland. The Health Promoting Health Service (HPHS) concept is that ‘every healthcare contact is a health improvement opportunity’.

2. Community Health (Care) Partnership

Community Health Partnerships (CHPs) have a key role to play working with local communities to identify opportunities to improve health and to take action to reduce health inequalities.

3. Health Promoting Hospitals International

NHS Health Scotland is the national coordinating centre in Scotland for the World Health Organisation's international network for health promoting hospitals and health services. As such NHS Health Scotland links to the international network, supports development of the international conferences and links local members in Scotland with international progress.

4. NHS Boards: Partnership Management Programme

NHS Health Scotland supports the work of the Boards through coordination of capacity building, evidence and evaluation and links with the NHS Boards for planning through the Partnership programme.
