Once CHPs and their community planning partners have identified their population needs and key priorities for inequalities, an understanding of the evidence on effective interventions across these priorities areas is essential for subsequent planning. Support from NHS Health Scotland

NHS Health Scotland informs national and local efforts to improve health and reduce health inequalities. This is achieved by providing evidence inputs in to the development of health improvement policies and programmes, to enhance their effectiveness.

Alcohol and Offenders Criminal Justice Research Programme

This is a portfolio of three studies led by NHS Health Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government (2009-2011). The aim is to understand better the extent and nature of alcohol problems in offenders and which effective interventions can address them.

Research on health behaviour change models and effective approaches child healthy weight programmes

A literature review on health behaviour change models and approaches support the development and delivery of effective child healthy weight programme.


NHS Education for Scotland

UK wide reviews on health inequalities provide a summary of effective evidence based strategies for reducing health inequalities. Some examples include:

Fair Society, Healthier Lives: The Marmot Review (2010)

In February 2010, the Marmot Review Team published Fair Society, Healthy Lives. The review proposes the most effective evidence-based strategies for reducing health inequalities in England from 2010.

Poverty, inequality and policy since 1997

The Poverty, inequality and policy since 1997 report, published by the Joseph Rowntree foundation in 2009, shows what effect policies introduced since 1997 have had on reducing poverty and inequality.
