‘General versus targeted interventions: What is the learning for sexual health and wellbeing?’


This year’s national WISH conference will aim to stimulate debate around the use of general population level versus targeted interventions and highlight some of the key learning for sexual health and wellbeing.
The conference will give delegates the opportunity to:

- Hear from leading professionals on the benefits and drawbacks of population level versus targeted interventions
- Learn from the experience of practitioners who are using holistic approaches to promote sexual wellbeing
- Participate in discussion and debate with colleagues from around the country

Celebrating success! The 2010 WISH awards
The WISH awards aim to promote and celebrate the success of Sexual Health and HIV projects and initiatives around the country. Nominations closed on 20 August 2010. Awards will be presented at the WISH National Conference at the Grosvenor Hilton Hotel, Edinburgh, on 14 September 2010.

This event will update practitioners on sex and the law. Also included in the programme: confidentiality, accessing services within a rural context, sexualisation of imagery/goods. Registration opens on 10 September. For more information call 0131 313 7573.

West of Scotland event: 'Sexual wellbeing: everyone's business'
Glasgow Hilton Hotel, Thursday 17 June 2010

This event explored risk-taking behaviours, how they are interrelated and their association with self esteem and mental health. Visit our Virtual Learning Envirnonment (external link) to view the presentations.


East of Scotland event: stigma, discrimination and values
Queensferry Hotel, North Queensferry, Wednesday 17 March 2010

This event built on the confidence and competency of the sexual health workforce by fostering an awareness of the importance of our actions on health inequalities. There were three presentations highlighting equality and diversity issues and accompanying workshops.

North of Scotland WISH event
AECC, Aberdeen, Thursday 19 November 2009

This event highlighted issues around Respect & Responsibility Outcome 4: Young People.

Work that is being undertaken to address the sexual health and wellbeing of young people in the North of Scotland was highlighted. Presentations included the use of chlamydia testing kits in a remote and rural setting, participatory methods of engaging with young people and the development of a sexual health drop in centre in Orkney.

WISH National Conference 2009
Radisson SAS Hotel, Glasgow, Wednesday 28 October 2009

The 2009 WISH conference focused on linking sexual health in with other strategies. There were mini-presentations about 'Curriculum for Excellence', 'the Gender-Based Violence programme', and 'Culture Change' and guest speaker Jo Adams, presented her work on supporting young people to delay early sex.
