Effect of tobacco smoking on survival of men and women by social position: a 28 year cohort study 2009 was research to assess the impact of tobacco smoking on the survival of men and women in different social positions.
Young People and Substance Use - Final Report 2009 considers the influence of personal, social and environmental factors on substance use among adolescents in Scotland, published in December 2008. The purpose of this literature review is to provide a holistic understanding of substance use behaviour among young people in Scotland, and to describe the key factors which influence alcohol, tobacco and drug use among this group.
Smoking cessation research
Local NHS smoking cessation services: Exploration of motivators and barriers to engagement 2009. The overarching aim of the research was to provide insights into the factors preventing engagement with smoking cessation services, and in doing so to inform the future development of a communication strategy designed to promote them.
Smoking ban and smoking legislation in Scotland
Fresh air? Second-hand smoke 2010 provides an overview of the main outcomes of the evaluation of the smoke-free legislation.
Scotland's smoke-free legislation. This section highlights the evidence detailing the success of the ban on smoking in public places in Scotland. In 2004, NHS Health Scotland commissioned a series of research studies to support the consultation on smoking in public places. Comprehensive smoke-free legislation was successfully introduced in Scotland on 26 March 2006.
