Hib/MenC

This section provides information on the Hib/MenC vaccine.

The Hib/MenC vaccine is usually given to babies at around 12 months.

This vaccine protects against Haemophilus influenzae b and Meningococcal serogroup c infections and their consequences. The Hib/MenC vaccine does not protect against meningitis and septicaemia caused by serogroup B meningococcal infection, other bacteria or viruses such as pneumococcal or mumps.

This vaccine contains Hib polysacchoride and Menc polysaccharide, both of which are conjugated to tetanus toxoid.

For more information refer to the relevant section of Immunisations against Infectious Disease (the Green Book) (external link).
