Breast Screening

This page provides information on the Scottish Breast Screening Programme.

Breast Screening is provided in centres in the major cities (Aberdeen, Inverness, Irvine, Glasgow, Dundee and Edinburgh) and to outlying areas via mobile units.

The Scottish Breast Screening Programme invites women aged between 50 and 70 years old for screening every three years.

Your Breast Screening Appointment Explained (2007) provides in-depth information of the breast-screening process - the step-by-step procedures, tips on what to wear, what happens after the mammograms, and what is involved at a possible re-call examination.

Women aged 71 and over are encouraged to attend through self-referral to their local screening centres.

An illustrated booklet, Keep yourself healthy: A guide to examining your breasts (2003) is available for people with learning disabilities advising on regular breast checks for early signs of cancer.
