Child Healthy Weight

This section details work undertaken towards the Child Healthy Weight HEAT target by NHS Health Scotland and our partners.

Background

Child Healthy Weight programmes work toward the Scottish Government's HEAT (Health Efficiency Access and Treatment) target, Achieve agreed completion rates for child healthy weight intervention programme 2011-14.

Child Healthy Weight resources

Child Healthy Weight resources have been developed to support children, parents and healthcare professionals.

PedsQL (TM)

PedsQL (external site) is a tool to measure health-related quality of life in children and adolescents.
The Scottish Government recommends that Child Healthy Weight programmes adopt this tool where appropriate, to measure outcomes other than BMI change for participating children.

Copies of the interview and guidance can be obtained by emailing caroline.hoy@nhs.net. Please note that PedsQL is available from NHS Health Scotland under license and cannot be used outside of the Child Healthy Weight programme.

Join the Child Healthy Weight networking site!

The free Child Healthy Weight Network (external site) makes it easier for professionals from all sectors interested in child healthy weight interventions to share resources and information.
The site provides members with:

  • online surgery sessions on key topics
  • forums for specific topics
  • a resource bank of materials and information updates.

You can join the Child Healthy Weight Network by emailing healthscotland-childhealthyweight@nhs.net or register online at www.elearning.healthscotland.com

Learning and workforce development

NHS Health Scotland worked in partnership with Skills Active to produce National Occupational Standards for Healthy Weight.

National occupational standards are statements of the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for effective performance in a job role and are expressed as outcomes of competent performance. In other words, they define good practice in the performance of individuals in the workplace, based on the functions they perform; they may be regarded as quality standards for people.
