Evidence for Action introductory briefings

The Evidence for Action (EfA) team produces briefings on wide ranging issues to inform discussion and debate. They also produce briefings on more specific portfolio areas.

Briefings as an introduction to issues and ideas

The EfA team has produced the following briefings as an introduction to issues and ideas:

• Asset based appraoches to health improvement - explains what's meant by this type of approach and summarises what's known about its potential for improving health.
• Idea of attachment - covers one aspect of the relationship between baby and carer.
• Power - a health and social justice issue - outlines the theory of power as a fundamental cause of health inequalities. It aims to generate discussion to inform NHS Health Scotland's programme of work to achieve a fairer, healthier Scotland.

Briefings to inform decision making within their portfolio areas

The EfA team has also produced briefings to inform decision making within their portfolio areas. These include the following:

Mental Health

• Health Bodies, Healthy Minds (2009) - on the relationship between physical activity and mental health in children and young people. 
• Healthy Bodies, Health Minds Practitioners Briefing (2009) - outlines the evidence and provides pointers for practice.
• EfA Dementia and Equality Briefing Paper (2015) - on evidence of effective interventions to raise awareness of dementia among different population groups with characteristics protected by the Equality Act 2010.

• Second-hand smoke interventions - to inform their development across Scotland.
