Physical Activity Policy Review

Scotland’s national strategy for physical activity Let’s make Scotland More Active (external link) was launched five years ago. The Minister for Communities and Sport has endorsed a national review of the strategy to evaluate progress made in implementing the strategy since 2003.

A national review group including Scottish Government representatives, NHS Health Scotland and physical activity experts is currently undertaking the review. The review group is chaired by John Beattie (former head of the Task Force)and will report in December 2008 and recommend priorities for action within the strategy in the next five years.

Aim

To evaluate progress to date in implementing the National Physical Activity Strategy Lets Make Scotland More Active (external link) and
to recommend priorities for action within the strategy in the next five years.

Phase 1 (June-Sept 2008)

The review is currently in its first phase. This phase will focus on gathering information to inform progress with the strategy's implementation and assessing changes in key physical activity outcomes.

Phase 2 (Sept-Dec 2008)

The key focus of Phase 2 of the review will be to meet with key local and national groups and organisations via regional events, in order to:

  • evaluate the picture of progress and change,
  • to reflect on areas of success/challenge and lessons learned and
  • to agree key priorities for the future

The review group will report in December 2008.
