Health Scotland Strategic Seminar - Regaining the Focus - Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, Clydebank - 26 June 2007
On 26 June we held the first of two practitioner-focused seminars to disseminate and discuss the key issues arising from our recent evidence review of the sxual health needs of young people with learning disabilities. The evidence was comprised of:
•A focus group study ran by the TASC Agency about the sexual health needs and experiences of young people with learning disabilities. Click here for details
•A review of the published and unpublished literature on policy, sexual health knowledge and experience and interventions encompassing young people with learning disabilities carried out by a group of independent researchers - available soon.
•The report on promising practice from Scotland and elsewhere in the UK in relation to meeting the sexual health needs of young people with learning disabilities - available soon.
There will also be a briefing paper which pulls together and summarises all of the evidence. Details of this will be announced in next month’s bulletin.
Some of the presentations from the day, covering topics such as provision of SRE in mainstream and specialist schools, access to services and working with young people with learning disabilities to understand their sexual health needs, are now available to download.
