The Network communicates mainly by e-mail. Meetings of the full Network are held annually, usually in the form of a one-day symposium and workshops on topics of current concern or mutual interest. Notes on previous meetings can be downloaded below.

The 2008 meeting of the Healthy Environment Network set out to build on our discussions in 2007. There were very interesting and thought-provoking presentations on transport, the environment and children’s health and this was followed by workshops where we discussed the issues raised in more detail.

March 2007 – the environment and heart disease
The network held an interesting and informative meeting in March 2007 looking at environmental influences on heart health and heart disease and discussing how organisations across Scotland can work more effectively together to address these influences. A network position paper was developed in the light of discussion at that meeting.

February 2006 – Climate Change and Health
The Network met in February 2006 when the topic was climate change and health. Presentations covered issues such as environmental impacts of climate change, health impacts, the sustainable development strategy for Scotland, and a description of the recent floods in Carlisle (as an example of the results of an adverse weather events).

February 2005 – The Environment and the Health Improvement Challenge
In February 2005, the topic for the Network meeting was the Environment and the Health Improvement Challenge. During this meeting we heard presentations on health improvement and the environment, strategic environmental assessment, a call for new ways of assessing national development (other than economic growth), and a discussion of stress biology.

November 2003 – Environmental Justice, Planning and Health
In November 2003, the Network meeting focused on environmental justice, planning and health, hearing presentations on a recent Network Report on Environmental Justice, the ways in which this is being interpreted and links to planning and health.

November 2002 – Environment and Population Health
In November 2002, the Network held its second meeting. At this we discussed the ways in which the environment influences the health of the population and discussed the format and future development of the Network.

May 2002 – Inaugural meeting
The Network held its inaugural meeting in May 2002. During this meeting we heard presentations on the thinking behind the Network and how another such multi-sectoral network had operated in the past, as well as presentations on environment and health and the links between health and sustainable development.
