LIBRARY NEWS
Anticipatory Care Conference 2009
This year the Health Scotland Library held a stall in the marketplace at the Anticipatory Care Conference, which was organised by NHS Health Scotland.
This was an incredibly successful event for the library. It provided staff with the opportunity to introduce our services to a variety of people who were unfamiliar with the library, as well as meeting some old friends, and putting faces to the names of some of our regular users.
The range of services offered by the library generated a great deal of interest, with well over fifty people subscribing to the bulletin, in excess of twenty people subscribing to each of our current awareness alerts, and several requests to join the library and borrow books.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new bulletin subscribers. We hope you find the bulletin of interest and would welcome any feedback you may have on this resource.
Annual Report
The Health Scotland Library’s Annual Report for 2008-09 has now been published. If you would like to find out more about how the library has improved and developed its services over this period you can read the full report at http://www.healthscotland.com/resources/library/report.aspx.
Word version of Library Bulletin now available
As a result of customer feedback, the bulletin is now also available as a Word document, as an alternative to PDF. If you would prefer to receive the library bulletin as a Word document, then please let us know.
New Resource
Walk the Talk programme at NHS Health Scotland- Snakes and Ladders resource by Barnardo’s. Walk the Talk is the national programme at NHS Health Scotland which is centered around supporting health professionals to make their services more accessible and youth-friendly for younger patients. As part of this we are continuing to building up its catalogue of resources to help aid health professionals in making their service more youth-friendly. Members of Walk the Talk who attended our conference last year and selected the Snakes and Ladders workshop may remember delegate’s positive reaction to the game. Due to its success, Walk the Talk has now purchased a copy of the resource and this is loaned out to network members free of charge through our library service. Designed by Barnardo’s, this game is centred around experiential learning allowing participants to identify gaps in service, challenge attitudes and devise ways to improve professional practice. It has been used in a variety of settings to date and is a useful tool to use with staff on training days and can be used with all members of staff regardless of their position. For further information about the game please email: walkthetalk@health.scot.nhs.uk
