As someone involved in health improvement you will find there are many opportunities to continue your development. These can range from formal education to informal learning but the key to using them to develop is to reflect on your learning and apply it in practice to your health improvement role.


Search for public health courses

  • You can search for details of over 200 full-time, part-time and distance-learning public health courses available in more than 30 universities and colleges. You can narrow your search by using a drop-down list of public health functions.
  • NHS Health Scotland and NHS Education for Scotland have collaborated on this resource to support the development of the public health workforce in Scotland.

The Public Health Skills & Career Framework (external link): was launched following UK consultation including contributions facilitated by NHS Health Scotland with our partners. The Learning & Workforce Development Team are linking with the UK implementation initiatives and we are keen to hear from colleagues about how the Framework can be useful for your work.

NHS Education for Scotland (external link): helps provide better patient care by designing, commissioning, quality assuring and, where appropriate, providing education, training and lifelong learning for the NHS workforce in Scotland. You may also find NES e-Library (external link) useful - an online library with access to journals, databases and learning resources as well as shared spaces and managed knowledge networks. Requires an Athens password to log in.
