Evaluation of Have a Heart Paisley

Have a Heart Paisley (external link) (HaHP) is a Scottish Government-funded national health demonstration project, hosted by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The initial project was established to reduce heart disease and promote healthier, longer lives for the people of Paisley

Have a Heart Paisley was one of four projects outlined in the Government’s White paper ‘Towards a Healthier Scotland’.
Phase One of the project began in 2001 and continued until 2004. The Executive Summary for Phase One of the Evaluation is available at the Scottish Government's website.

Phase Two Evaluation

Phase Two was evaluated by the
Research Unit in Health Behaviour and Change (RUHBC) at the University of Edinburgh (external link). The evaluation plan was developed as a result of intensive collaboration between HaHP programme staff, NHS HS Heart Health Learning Network, and the RUHBC evaluation team.

For details of the purpose, design and methods for the evaluation, please download the Research Plan for Evaluation of Have a Heart Paisley Phase Two. For the findings of the evaluation please see the Highlights sidebar.

Phase Two

Phase Two of the project ran until 2008 and delivered a more focussed programme of work. The project aim was to show to what level preventative measures, such as tackling risk factors, can improve heart health. The project has 3 dimensions:

  • to target those aged 45-60 years old at risk of cardiovascular disease using‘Health Coaching’ for one-to-one-support and lifestyle change.
  • to target individuals of any age with established CHD improving opportunities for access and adherence to cardiac rehab.
  • Support the above work through enabling participation, building confidence and increasing skills through social marketing techniques.
