Our programmes of work
Learn more about our work themes.
Our team has three functions:
Equalities
To develop capacity in the NHS, through the sharing of resources and providing advice regarding policy making and legislative areas.
Human Resources
To provide operational and strategic Human Resources support, ensuring the workforce of NHS Health Scotland is as diverse as possible.
Organisational Performance
To provide operational and strategic corporate functions to NHS Health Scotland in terms of its corporate planning, reporting and performance, by embedding equalities into health improvement strategies.
There are six overarching work themes:
- Contribute to the improved effectiveness of Health Scotland overall through business planning, performance management and governance, and strategic and operational HR management.
- Manage or support national programmes to achieve Scottish Government Health Directorate priorities (generally set by the Mutuality, Equality and Human Rights Board). This is from programme design through to implementation, evaluation and embedding of learning across partner agencies.
- Develop capacity within the NHS to tackle health inequalities and promote equality through supporting networks and facilitate bespoke opportunities to learn together, create or share strategies that respond quickly to service needs and lead to improved practice.
- Sponsor the development of and sharing knowledge resources and methodologies that are useful to the health service in supporting service improvement and which we have the particular expertise to provide. Provide appropriate pools of expertise in specific equality and related areas in order to advise policy making and advise boards as appropriate on policy or legislative areas, particularly as new policy emerges.
- Work with national partners and agencies to influence the overall promotion, delivery and mainstreaming of the equalities agenda and to support the effective governance of the equalities agenda.
