Simple Obesity

This term is used to describe non-symptomatic patients who are obese. The use of the of the word ‘simple’ does not imply that obesity is perceived as a problem in isolation. Several interviewees identified a complex cause and effect relationship between obesity, self esteem, depression and/or social deprivation.

Lifestyle advice

This term refers to a range of health promoting activity including nutritional advice, encouragement to exercise, sensible alcohol consumption, stop-smoking etc.

Healthy Eating

This general term is used to describe dietary advice contained within the Towards Healthy Eating Campaign i.e. at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day, low salt, high fibre, low fat and cholesterol.

Primary Care Team

This term is used to describe the ‘core’ primary care team consisting of GPs, HVs, DNs, and PN’s.
