Some facts about smoking

One of the most important topics your partner will get advice about is smoking. A baby growing in the womb will be affected by the harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke if the mother smokes. However, women who stop smoking when they are pregnant reduce the risk of having a miscarriage, complications during the birth, a still born or low birthweight baby. Babies born with a lower than average weight are more likely to develop infections and other health problems.
