Description:In 2004, the Scottish Executive published its Tobacco Control Action Plan, which included as an action point the intention to 'sponsor a major public debate on actions to minimise the impact of second-hand smoke'. A public consultation relating to smoking in public places was launched in June 2004. A number of specific studies were also commissioned to support the consultation and this report contains a summary of the results of a review of evidence about the impacts of smoking bans and restrictions.
