Partners in health: A toolkit for building successful partnerships

Description:The Scottish Executive have issued several policy documents on the importance of partnership working between the health service, local authorities and the voluntary sector in promoting better health in Scotland. Following this work,a training initiative was devised to assist understanding on how best to support the development of health promotion activities in the voluntary sector, with the emphasis on partnership working. The pilot partnerships recruited members to the training, a local co-ordinator dealt with invitations, venue and catering, and HEBS provided experienced facilitators for each session. The overall objective was to develop ‘live ' partnership working among the group who attended. Background information and advice was fed in and exercises were used as appropriate. Market Research UK undertook an evaluation of the training and its findings, and this together with the experiences of the facilitators and participants comprise the contents of this resource. It contains sections on key principles for successful partnership working, practical steps to successful partnership working, training exercises, dealing with issues of power and influence, project management, and useful resources.
