Structure of NHS Health Scotland

NHS Health Scotland comprises the Chief Executive's Office, which provides strategic and corporate leadership for the organisation, ensures high standards of governance are met, and encourages high-level coordination of organisational policy and related initiatives; and the following four Directorates, each with their own responsibilities and areas of operation:


Programme Design & Delivery

This Directorate covers programmes of health improvement focusing on settings-based approaches, specific healthy living topics and life stages. It also includes related functions in marketing and oversees the development of the health improvement workforce in Scotland.



Public Health Sciences

This Directorate covers public health programmes. The teams within this Directorate manage a diverse range of information and research functions, networks and developments.



Equality, People and Performance

This Directorate works with Health Boards to tackle health inequalities and promote the equalities agenda. The Directorate leads the corporate business planning, performance management and Human Resources functions, contributing to the overall effectiveness of NHS Health Scotland.



Resource Management

This Directorate oversees delivery of the core corporate functions of Finance, Estates & Facilities, Information Governance & Risk Management, Health & Safety, IT, Business Improvement Programme and Contracts. It leads the development of the organisation’s financial strategy, operating across all areas of the organisation’s business to achieve best value.
