Mental Health and Race Equality Programme
Welcome to the Mental Health and Race Equality Programme.
This is a race equality national programme currently funded by the Mental Health Division of the Scottish Government until 2011. The programme has existed since 2004 and was previously hosted within the National Resource Centre for Ethnic Minority Health (NRCEMH).
The programme has and will continue to work to challenge institutional racism and support equitable access to mental health support and services.
Just as with mainstream communities where the voice of the user of services is now recognised and treated as central, we work to ensure that minority voices are included in the same way. We know that there is the will and commitment in Scotland but there is not always the expertise and confidence to promote inclusion. Thus our mental health programme includes the following priorities:
1. Challenging Stigma
2. Promoting Recovery
3. Equal Access to Services
4. Supporting Practitioners
5. Ethnic Monitoring
6. Race Equality Impact Assessment
7. Research
8. Challenging Multiple Inequalities
9. Providing Information
We have developed some useful resources around stigma and recovery in partnership with minority ethnic service users and service providers.
We have also set up networks that you can join to become more involved and receive regular information about race, culture, ethnicity and mental health – if you are interested please contact us on 0141 354 2900 or, alternatively, you can email either Dale Meller - Programme Manager or Arma Sayed - Programme Officer.
