Equality Impact Assessment
Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) is a systematic way of thinking about how our work will affect people and helps us to think about how we can promote equality and address discrimination through our work.
Health Scotland's approach to EQIA
EQIA is an integral part of the policy and service development process and improves the way we develop our policies and functions by making sure there is no discrimination in the way they are carried out and equality is promoted.
Our approach is to embed EQIA into the planning and development of our work programmes so impact assessment is viewed as a live process, linked to and informing work plans and our goal to reduce health inequalities.
We are committed to publishing our findings and recommendations at appropriate times as we carry out this process, not only to meet our legislative requirements, but to demonstrate to the public and our partners how EQIA is informing our work.
The Equality Impact Assessments that we are currently consulting on are listed below. We are always looking for your feedback, if you would like to comment on any of the impact assessments please click on the title of the EQIA for further information.

NHS Health Scotland's Restricted Research Commissioning Process
The restricted research commissioning process is an important part of NHS Health Scotland activities. NHS Health Scotland commissions various types of research to inform the direction and development of their health improvement activities and subsequent evaluations. This research process aims to address the diverse needs of the Scottish population, avoid discrimination, promote equality and tackle inequalities in health.
