Scottish policy note
Safer drinking and designated places of safety were cited as actions in the alcohol policy framework; ‘Changing Scotland's Relationship with Alcohol: A Framework for Action’ (2009). Specifically this involves developing sustained and tough enforcement measures such as the Safer Streets initiative and continuing to support education initiatives such as Medics against Violence. There is also focus on early intervention through the Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV), the ground-breaking gangs initiative to tackle collective violence in the East End of Glasgow. Getting gang members to move away from alcohol misuse is a key element in this work. The framework also commits to publishing recently commissioned research which sets out a range of approaches that could be used across Scotland to support drunk and incapable adults.
